WestLB is a well-established institution in the German and European payment transactions market. In 2006 WestLB handled approximately 1.8 billion payment transactions which were almost exclusively processed electronically and used automated systems to the largest possible extent.
Building on its historic role as the savings banks’ giro centre, WestLB is now making progress towards its goal of becoming a leading payments processor within SEPA, the Single European Payments Area. The foundations for this have already been laid.
