Corporate Germany’s growth potential
The German economy is set to grow much faster than its long-term potential rate
in 2011. The quality of this growth has also improved, as domestic demand is
increasingly contributing towards the upturn. This is of major importance for 2012,
as indications of a global economic slowdown are intensifying and the impact of
exports may thus fade to some extent – though they remain a mainstay of the
economy.
This poses a number of questions for investors and German companies. How
realistic are current projections for earnings growth, particularly in the cyclical
sectors? How is the debt crisis impacting the economy and companies? Will
ongoing high growth rates in emerging economies still be able to offset weaker
growth in the USA and the eurozone periphery? Will German companies continue
to expand their investment expenditure next year, or has it already peaked?
These and other questions relating to the growth potential of German companies
will be examined in detail in the course of the 9th WestLB Deutschland Conference.
